I started this law firm because of my personal story, which starts with my grandfather, Joseph Dunkelgrun. Joe grew up during the great depression and lived through the Second World War. After that, like many others, he built up his own company with grit and determination and a bit of luck. He worked hard, and did quite well for himself. But then disaster struck. His daughter, my aunt, was killed by a drunk driver at a young age. After that, he was never the same, he didn’t take care of his business and he didn’t do any planning. When he passed away, my father and uncle inherited a shell of a company and a hefty tax bill.
They rolled up their sleeves, got down to business, and after a few years were able to turn things around. The company was doing well, the future was looking bright, and they both had young families to take care of. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be – my father was diagnosed with cancer and told he only had a short time to live. The first thing he did was put his affairs in order, he gave his brother several options, and my uncle ended up buying him out. He also made sure that my brother, sister and I were well taken care of, and there was even a stipend for when we went to college.
Having experienced first-hand the benefits of proper planning, as well as the family history of knowing what happens when you don’t plan, I’ve made it my mission in life to help other people prepare for the inevitable as well.
